Daddy's Little Valentine.

Jessika waited for the elevator doors to open. It had been three weeks since she had seen Chris and the guys. She smiled as she remembered all the weeks of fighting between her and Chris about her going to the writing seminar. She finally convinced him to let her go with a promise she would buckle down and do better in school and get caught up. As the doors opened on the seventh floor. She smiled at seeing everyone doing their usual things.

Buck was teasing JD. Josiah and Nathan were in some deep conversation. Ezra was cursing and pounding on the side of his computer. Which was a funny sight to his normal calm personality. she fought to hold in her laughter. Then looking over to Vin she smiled at seeing him laid back reading some outdoor magazine. Shaking her head at seeing Chris' office door shut as always. You would think he was shutting out the world by doing that. She thought to herself. She stood there just happy to be home with her family again.

Buck looked up and smiled at seeing her. He pushed JD's head to get him to look up. As he made his was around the desk, "Hey, Trouble . You're back early."

"Hey, Bucky. Shh I want to surprise Chris."

Picking her up and swinging her around, "Sure, Trouble. When did you get back?"

Laughing, Jessika said, "I just got in. The seminar ended early. A friend picked me up and drooped me off."

Setting her back on her feet as the others came over to greet her, Buck looked down at her. "Trouble, I could have picked you up."

"I know but I wanted to surprise all of you. Please don't be mad Bucky."(pouting)

Buck smiled, "I'm not mad Trouble just glad your home safe. maybe you can turn that tyrant of a brother of yours off."

Just then they heard Chris' office door opened. They turned around and blocked Jessika form his view.

Eyeing his team Chris knew they were up to something. "Okay guys what's going on here?"

They smiled at their boss. Then Vin spoke up, "Well, pard we have a surprise for you."

With a quick rub of his face he remembered the last time they had a surprise for him. Between them and Jessika he couldn't remember ever being so embarrassed. "Okay guys what is the surprise?"

They moved to reveal Jessika standing there. "Hey big brother."

"Jessy, You weren't due back till neck week." Chris said as he picked her up and hugged her.

"The seminar finished early. Besides I couldn't spend my birthday anywhere but with you."

Setting her back on her feet. "Please don't remind me. I'm NOT ready for you to grow up yet. Come on you can wait in my office. I don't want any trouble today." Then shot a look at Vin as he pushed Jessika towards his office.

Vin turned to Buck confused. "What did I do? I've been I've seen older brothers protective but he's worst I've seen."

Buck took a deep breath and made his way over and sat on the edge of JD desk. "It's a long story. When Chris was 15 he was pretty wild. Well he got his girlfriend pregnant. they decided they were to young to raise the baby. He parents didn't want it. but Chris wanted to keep his child in his life. so he talked his parents into adopting the baby and raising her as their own. As far as she trouble knows Chris is her brother. Guys you can't tell her the truth. Legally she is his sister. It would kill her."

They all looked up at the sound of a door shutting. Chris had heard what Buck said, "What Buck told you is true. I will not have her thinking she wasn't wanted. She was. The day she was born I knew I had done something right. Getting my parents to adopt her was the only way I could keep her in my life. my parents were killed when the plane my father was flying crashed. They had given me legal custody of her in the event of their deaths. She was 6 when it happened. I wont have any of you destroying the memories she has of me parents as hers. She doesn't know I'm her father and I want it kept that way. Got me?"

The others nodded. They knew how he was when it came to her.

"Go on clean and and get out of here for the weekend. Oh remember we're meeting at my place at noon for the game. "

They all nodded and started to get ready to go home.

As the others were leaving JD. noticed that Vin wasn't with them. He turned back, "Hey Vin you coming?"

"Naw y'all go ahead . I want to talk to Chris a minute."

JD. shrugged, "Okay see ya Sunday."

Vin nodded as she watched them leave.

Vin sat back adn waited for the courage to come to him. Things were different now. He now was dealing with a very protective father. Not just a big brother. He remembered the say Cupids arrow struck him. He should have asked Chris permission them. Taking a deep breath he stood and knocked on Chris' door.

As he waited for an answer he heard, "No Jessy. I mean it. You'll use this next week to catch up with your school work. right here."

"But Chris I'm almost 17. Stop treating me like a baby."

"I'm not changing my mind. you made me a promise and I want it keep. That's final Young Lady."

Vin started to walk away. when Chris opened the door, "Hey Vin need something?"

Vin turned and swallowed hard, "ummm yeah. I need to talk to you a minute."

"Sure Jessy can you wait in the outer office. NO trouble okay?"

"Alright geez. You would think I was a bad child." Jessy stood and gathered her things. she winked at Vin as she walked by him.

"NO your not bad just a handful. I wont be long. " Chris shock his head as he shut the door. "What did you need to talk to me about?" Chris asked.

Running his hand through his hair. "Man this is harder then I thought. Here is goes. I have been smitten with Jessy for a year now. I was wondering if you would allow me to date her? I promise to treat her right."

Standing Chris took a step towards him.

Vin took a tentative step backwards. "Now Chris. I wouldn't....."

Chris smiled, "Relax Vin. You can. but if she gets hurt. You'll have me to deal with."

Vin sighed with relief. "I promise. I wont hurt her. I care to much about her."

Good. Go one go home. We'll see you at the ranch on Sunday. He slapped Vin on the back. "Thanks for asking me first."

Vin smiled and open the door. "See ya Sunday pard."

Jessy smiled as Vin walked by. Then turning to Chris. as he shut his office door. "Everything okay?"

Slipping on his coat Chris nodded. "Oh yeah that was just a paper work issue. Lets go home kiddo."

Shaking her head, Jessy pulled on her coat. "Okay my luggage is in the back of the truck."

"Okay good." Chris replied as the elevator doors shut.

Pulling up in front of the house. Chris smiled when he looked over and saw her sleeping. He reached over and brushed hair from her face. He thought to himself. I wish you could know just how much you mean to me. I wanted you know I'm your father but pa said you couldn't know till you were an adult. You looks so much like your mother. I'm glad she didn't want you. Wiping a stray tear from his face Chris got out and opened her door. Picking her up. He carried her into the house. Placing her on her bed. He shut the door quietly. Then went and brought her things in from the truck.

Chapter 2

Stepping onto the porch. Jeesy knew it was a beautiful day for a ride. As she stepped off the porch she heard, "Jessy where you going?"

"Just for a ride. I wont be long."

"Okay. I'll be back in an hour."

"Alright. Be careful"

Jessy nodded and waved her hand.

Chris smiled and shook his head. then went back inside.

Vin stopped his jeep in the driveway. He noticed the others were already there. Even Ezra was there before him. He looked at the flowers and Candy in the other seat. Then felt the locket in his pocket.

Jessy came riding back into the yard. She spotted Vin heading for the house. "VIN"

Vin turned and went back to greet her. as she walked Trouble into the barn.

Vin waited outside while Jessy took care of her horse.

Jessy smiled to herself as she approached Vin. Without saying a word she reached out and pulled him into the barn. Backing him in to a stall. Jessy Kissed him, "I missed you."

Smiling Vin pushed back from her. "I missed you too. I don't want Chris to catch us. Here these are for you. (handing her the flowers and candy.) There's more but I want to wait till after the game. Now at least Chris can't get mad a me."

"oh they're beautiful. What do you mean?"

"I got permission form Chris to date you. Now we don't have to keep it quiet."

Jessy smiled and took Vin's hand as they headed for the house.

As they entered the house Jessy quickly kissed Vin on the cheek. "The others are in the living room. Let me put these in water and help Chris. Then I'll join you."

"Okay don't be long." Vin answered as he pulled her close and kissing her. Then letting her go and joining the others in the living room.

Jessy quietly walked into the kitchen. She smiled when she was Chris working at the sink. Quietly putting the flowers and candy down. She sunk up on Chris and put her arms around his neck. "Thank you for not casing Vin away. He brought me flower and candy."

Chris smiled, "You're Welcome baby. Just be careful okay." as he patted her hand.

Jessy looked around his side at him, "You haven't called me that since I was little."

Chris moved his arm and smiled, "The last time I did you said you were to old for that name."

"Guess I'm not to old after all."

"Why don't you put those flowers in a vase. Then take the guys some beers. NO, even before you ask you cane have one." Chris commented as he handed her a vase from he cupboard.

Jessy took the vase, "Okay but its not fair." Then she put the flowers in the vase and set it on the table. Grabbing six beers from the refrigerator. Jessy headed for the living room. As she handed the guys their beers. Vin pulled her into his lap. Taking his beer and setting it on the floor and held her there.

JD smiled, "So I see you finally got permission from Chris to see her. At least now you don't have to go behind his back."

Buck hit JD on the back of the head, "Hush you want to get them in trouble."

JD grabbed his head, "Sorry guys, I didn't mean to......"

"Its okay JD." Jessy smiled at him.

"What's okay?" Chris asked as he walked into the room carrying a tray of food.

"Oh nothing important." Jessy giggles as Vin tickled her.

"I'd be careful Vin. Ohh trouble is a wiggler." Buck commented with a smile as he watched them.

Just then Jessy let out a loud squeal as her and Vin went toppling over backwards laughing.

Chris quickly grabbed Vin's beer, "See pard told you so." laughing Chris said as he helped Jessy to her feet. and extended a hand to Vin. Everyone including Ezra seem to enjoying themselves. As Vin sat the chair up the game started. Sitting on the floor in front of it. Jessy sat in the chair and looked around. Even though she really wasn't into sports except ridding horses. She was glad to sit and watch the game with her family. To her she didn't have one older brother she had seven.

"Hey squirt. Here catch." Chris called out.

Jessy looked up just as Chris tossed her English book to her. She caught it. "Geeze your no fun. Quarters."

Chris grinned back at her. "Always. Careful little girl."

Jessy grind back, then sat back and read the chapters she should have read while she was away.

As half-time Vin leaned his head back and saw that Jessy had dozed off. Turning Vin slowly took her book and closed it. Placing it on the floor. "Ezra can you hand me that afghan please." Vin quietly asked.

Ezra nodded, "Sure Mr. Tanner." As he handed Vin the blanket.

Vin covered her. Then turned to Chris. "Is she feeling okay? Its not like her to fall asleep during the game."

Chris stood and walked over to where Jessy sat and felt her forehead. "No fever. I think she just tired. She had a long flight yesterday."

Vin nodded and went to get another beer. As he was coming back into the room he over heard Ezra said, "Dose her mother ever try to see her?"

Vin stood there and listen, "No. Her mother hasn't seen her since the day she was born. (as Chris stared down at Jessy) She only dated me to get even with father who was a preacher. When Jessy was born she said she never wanted to see the little brat again. I could have killed her for that. But the moment I held Jessy I knew she as all that mattered. My parents agreed to adopt her. Sierra did call a few times saying she wanted Jessy. She even called her Alexi. But my father told her it was to late. Jessy was his daughter now. And I will do anything to keep her from Jessy."

"I thought my mother was bad. She's a piece of cake compared to her mom."

Vin entered the living room. "I wont let that women near her. You wan count on that pard."

Chris looked up, "Thanks man."

Chapter 4

Just then the phone rang. JD answered it. "Hello."

"Is this the Larabee house?" The voice on the other end said.

"Yes it is. May I help you?"

"May I speak to Mr. Larabee. It concerns his daughter?"

"Sure I guess may I say who's calling?" JD asked worried.

"Tell him It's Sierra Gray Stevens."

"Hang on please. As he covered the phone. "A. A. Chris there's a women on the phone. She says her name is Sierra Gray Stevens. She wants to speak to Mr. Larabee."

"Damn how did she get this number? She's been told she can't see Jess. Thanks JD." As he walked over and took the phone.

"Hello. This is Mr. Larabee." Chris said with a hint of anger in his voice.

"Mr. Larabee. I don't know if you remember me. But I dated your son Chris for a while. We even had a child together. I would like to see her please."

Everyone could see that Chris was trying to stay calm. Grabbing the cordless one Chris headed for his office. After shutting the door, He said, "Its me Chris. My parents were killed in a plane crash ten years ago. What do you want?"

"I. I. just want to see my daughter."

Rubbing his hand over his face. "Sierra , she's not our daughter. My parents adopted her. You signed away your rights to be her mother."

"But Chris. I want be part of her life. Where is she?"

Sitting down Chris was trying real hard not toe lose his temper. "NO! She's happy and healthy."

"Chris Please. I wont even talk to her. I was young and stupid."

"Look Sierra. She has very few memories of my parents. I wont have anyone. Not even you destroying her happiness."

"How about a deal?" Sierra asked with a glimmer of hope in her voice.

"You got nothing I want."

"You have a younger half brother. I'll give you all the information I have. If I can just see her. I wont even approach her."

Just as Chris was going to reply, JD busted in, "Chris Jessy! Something wrong."

Chris covered the phone, "JD calm down. what's wrong with her?"

JD took a few deep breaths. "She's shaking and throwing up. She wont wake up."

Chris looked at the phone, "Sierra there's an emergency here. Will talk another time. Call me at work. Never call here again. Federal building downtown." He hung up the phone before she could answer. He tossed the phone to JD. "Call 911 and get the ambulance to meet us at the end of the drive." As he ran out of the room. Chris rushed into the living room. He grabbed a blanket. "Vin did she get into the beans?"

"I'm not sure. I haven't seen any. why?" Vin answered as he cradled Jessy in his arms.

"Damn. she highly allergic to them." Chris said as he wrapped the blanket around her and picked her up. "Grab my keys and lets go. We have to hurry."

Josiah grabbed the keys. "Lets go." He opened the door for Chris.

Chris put Jess in the truck and climbed in next to her. "The paramedics will meet us at the end of the drive."

Josiah climbed into the truck and they took off down the drive. The others followed in Bucks truck.

Chris passed the waiting room. "I don't understand this. I didn't fix any beans. There's none in the house."

"It wasn't a reaction to the bean. Mr. Larabee." the doc said as he walked him.

"Then what caused it? How is she?"

The doc smiled. "Easy Chris . We're trying to find out. Has she been around anything that not normally in your house? She stable and sleeping we had to sedate her to help her relax."

Chris shook his head. Then looked up, "Wait Vin brought her flowers and candy. I think they were roses. The candy was in one of those heart shaped boxes."

Vin nodded, "They were roses."

Doc nodded. "Okay I think the nugget filling in those candy is was started this. We found too much sugar in her system. It looks like she's allergic to it. Don't worry she'll be okay in a few days. So on in. Room 4. We're admitting her for a few days."

Chris nodded and headed for Jessy's room. As he walked into the room He was shocked to see all the tubes and stuff in her. Turning to the doc. "Why the ventilator?"

"Her airway was swollen almost shut due to the vomiting are the allergic reaction. She wasn't getting any air. Once the swelling goes down I'll remove it."

Chris nodded as he walked over to the bed and lightly brushed her cheek. "I'm not leaving my daughter." He said in a whisper.

"I don't' think you would. I remember the day she was born. You blocked everyone out but that little angel When you held her."

Chris nodded, "Hard to believe she's almost 17."

Vin sat in the waiting room, "Man Chris is going to kill me. He said if anything happen to her I was in trouble."

"Vin you didn't know. Hell none of us did. Chris rarely lets her have candy. I think the last time it was even in the house was when Sarah was alive. He knows you couldn't hurt her that way." Buck replied as he sat next to Vin. and placed his hand on Vin's shoulder.

Vin Nodded "You're right. I just hope she wasn't hurt to bad."
